In 1935 a small collection of local seashells collected by L.A. City Lifeguards was moved from a card table on Venice Beach to the newly opened Cabrillo Beach Bathhouse and the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium was born.
Now, 75 years later with a new name and having touched the lives of millions of visitors, the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium continues to be internationally recognized as a leader in providing friendly and accessible seashore programs and facilities for understanding and improving our relationship with the marine environment.
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium has a long history of engaging visitors about the marine life of Southern California. Learn more about our history here.
