Underwater ROV Workshop

Saturday, December 1, 2012
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Discover the amazing world of underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) by building your own from scratch!

Building an ROV is a great way to teach students marine science research, technology, engineering, as well as fundamental physical science concepts. In this beginner level, hands-on workshop, participants will construct ROVs in groups. We'll do everything from constructing the frame to wiring the control box and waterproofing motors.

Teachers will learn how to utilize the tools and equipment needed to design an ROV using PVC pipe and other affordable materials. At the end of the workshop day, participants will compete in a challenge that will help determine the design of the ROV. Hints and tips will be provided for how to add this activity to your classroom or club and is especially appropriate for teacherís (grades 5-12) wanting to mentor students participating in the annual MATE ROV competition.

This is an introductory level workshop, no previous engineering or wiring experience necessary.

LAUSD teachers, this workshop is a salary point approved workshop.

Pre-Registration is required by Friday the week prior to the program and space is limited. To register or for more information, please call 310-548-7562
