Danielle’s First 100 Days
Membership campaign update (1/3/13): Danielle reached her goal of signing up 100 new members in 100 days! An enthusiastic thank you to all our new members who helped make this happen and to all our members who continue to support the Aquarium. We are excited for new members to be part of our community and we look forward to seeing everyone at Aquarium events in 2013. Thanks for a great start to the New Year!
Join us in welcoming Danielle Knecht as the new Development Manager for FRIENDS of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium! She graduated from the University of Virginia, spent the last several years as an editor in a public relations firm and is now ready for her next big adventure at the Aquarium.
Being in a new job can be daunting, but not for Knecht. “Everyone is so enthusiastic about what they do here, it’s impossible not to get caught up in it as well,” said Knecht. “That’s why I'm jumping right in with an ambitious goal to get 100 new members in my first 100 days helping to raise critically needed funds in support of aquarium programs.”
One of the reasons Knecht is so impressed with the Aquarium is the fact that it is the only “free” aquarium in North America that’s accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Instead of selling tickets, CMA asks for a suggested donation at the entrance. Since the very beginning, CMA’s leadership has emphasized the importance of providing “access to all” to give everyone a chance to learn about Southern California’s local marine environment. This philosophy allows 300,000 people to visit the Aquarium each year, including 150,000 students on school field trips.
“I haven’t underestimated the challenge of selling memberships to a free Aquarium,” said Knecht. “But I’m confident we can gain 100 new members in my first 100 days because I’ve learned that thousands of people throughout Los Angeles and beyond have been touched by CMA, in some way, during their lives.”
Please help Knecht reach her goal as part of the “Danielle’s First 100 Days” membership campaign. New members will double their donations because an anonymous donor is matching all funds raised from the campaign up to $5,000. If you are already a member, you can help by giving a tax-deductible gift membership to a friend, family member or other special person you’d like to share the Aquarium with.
