$30,000 Grant Received!
FRIENDS of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium wishes to sincerely thank The Boeing Company for its recent $30,000 grant in support of professional growth opportunities for pre-K through 12th grade school teachers. Through teacher workshops, open houses and curriculum-specific tools and supplies, new and experienced teachers will learn techniques to ignite a passion for science in their students.
The objective of the Science Teacher Education Tools and Curriculum Support program is to provide teachers with the carefully designed, tangible coaching and training needed to develop their science teaching skills. In addition, teachers will receive curriculum-specific teaching tools and supplies for later classroom use.
CMA’s educational staff has found that teachers often struggle with incorporating engaging science lessons. These are the concerns addressed during the workshops.
CMA will provide a series of educator open houses and half-day workshops to provide hands-on standards-based science lessons, including tools and supplies for new and experienced teachers to implement in their classrooms. The workshops will also model inquiry-based strategies that facilitate the teaching skills. Tools for successful pedagogy will be incorporated in the lessons. The grant funds will also be used to purchase equipment to improve the quality and substance of the presentations and workshops.
The program will also make use of collaborations and partnerships with Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles, where CMA staff travel to teacher training classrooms to present teacher training as part of their program for pre-service teachers.
FRIENDS of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium gratefully acknowledges Boeing for assisting the Aquarium in its education, conservation and research mission.
