Outdoor Programs

    With our oceanside location, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is able to offer unique outdoor classroom programs each spring. Additionally, we partner with Heal the Bay and other marine education centers to offer the naturalist-led Key to the Sea program on the beach.

Key to the Sea

Program Length: 90 minutes

Day/Time Offered: Tuesday- Friday, 10:30 am - 1 pm

Grades: 1 - 5

Location: Outdoor - Cabrillo Marine Aquarium / Cabrillo Coastal Park

Program Cost: Free program after signing up for a Key to the Sea Teacher Workshop

Month(s) Offered: October - March

Independent, self-conducted visits to the Aquarium may be extended for 1st-5th grade students through the naturalist-led Key to the Sea program on the beach. Teachers receive materials about beaches and the impact of storm drain runoff on the ocean at a required Key to the Sea teacher workshop. Co-sponsored by Heal the Bay and a collaborative of local marine education centers.

Teachers need to attend a workshop where they will receive a curriculum guide and other materials. Heal the Bay's Key to the Sea program.
