Lights, camera, ocean! CMA announced the winner of the “Youth On Board” video contest during World Oceans Day festivities on June 9, 2012. First place went to Kelly Russ, a 10th grader at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, for her inspiring impressions of Southern California's ocean. Russ received a trophy and a gift certificate to the CMA Gift Shop for her efforts.
"Kelly took to heart the contest concept of creating an inspiring ocean message," said Mike Schaadt, Director of CMA. "Her video incorporated great footage of Southern California marine life and captured the wonder of our local ocean. She understood the spirit of the contest and followed all the rules."
Second place went to Matthew Peters, who is also a 10th grader at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, for his video featuring inspiring messages about the ocean drawn in the sand. Contest video entries were judged based on originality, creativity and how effectively the message conveys the inspirational nature of the ocean. Videos had to be 60 seconds or less and could not contain dialogue.
