World Ocean Network
Ed Mastro, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s Director of Exhibits, became a member of the World Ocean Network’s Board of Directors. This international association works to raise public awareness about the ocean’s importance for humanity and the impact our everyday actions can have on the marine environment.
Mastro joins a prestigious group of ocean leaders on the World Ocean Network Board including Jean Michel Cousteau, President of the Ocean Futures Society; Paul Van Den Sande, Executive Director of the International Aquarium Forum; Ernesto Goldelman, Chairman of the Center for Development and Sustainable Fisheries; and Philippe Vallette, General Director of the Nausicaá Aquarium in France.
“People in the Los Angeles area don’t always realize it, but Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is a very well-respected ocean education and teaching Aquarium within the international community,” said Mastro. “When we attended the 8th International Aquarium Congress in South Africa, people from all over the world wanted to share with us and also learn more about how we do things. I look forward to continuing those conversations as a member of the World Ocean Network’s Board of Directors.”
The World Ocean Network brings together organizations involved in public outreach that are committed to taking action, which made Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s mission of engaging all visitors in education, recreation and research to promote knowledge, appreciation and conservation of the marine life of Southern California an excellent match.
“A top World Ocean Network priority for 2013 is raising awareness about the benefits of Marine Protected Areas, which fits in perfectly with our education and conservation efforts at the Aquarium,” said Mastro. “I’m looking forward to working with and learning from people discussing the importance of marine reserves on a global scale.”
