Grand Grunion Gala Honoring Two Conservation Leaders
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium will honor its recently retired, long-time director Mike Schaadt and California Sulphur CEO Jack Babbitt for their leadership roles in ocean conservation at the Grand Grunion Gala on Saturday, May 5, 2018.
“We’re excited to honor two people who have done so much to help the environment,” said Caroline Brady, Executive Director of Friends of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. “Mike has dedicated his career to finding novel ways to motivate people to learn about and care for our oceans. Now that he’s retired, he has promised to return to the Aquarium and continue inspiring the next generation as a volunteer.”
“Jack was one of the first CEOs operating in the Port of Los Angeles to implement best business practices that help keep the Harbor clean,” Brady said. “Since 2001, California Sulphur has donated close to $200,000, making it one of the Aquarium's top Corporate Circle members.”
Each year, FCMA hosts the Grand Grunion Gala to support the Aquarium’s award-winning ocean conservation and education programs. The event has made fundraising synonymous with fun and this year’s Cinco de Mayo Fiesta will be no exception. Guests will mix and mingle while sipping exotic cocktails and shopping for one-of-a-kind auction items. Then everyone will sit down for an al fresco dining experience before dancing the night away with music from the perennial favorite, 80z Enough.
Tickets are $225; $200 for Friends members. For information or tickets: www.grandgruniongala.org or call (310) 548-2031. The Gala takes place 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, 3720 Stephen M. White Dr., San Pedro. Top sponsors of the event include California Sulphur, Jeffrey P. Neu, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Andeavor and the Port of Los Angeles.
A facility of the L.A. Department of Recreation and Parks, San Pedro’s Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is dedicated to interpreting the Southern California marine environment. Recognized for its award-winning educational programs, the Aquarium attracts more than 300,000 people each year. Admission is free. Friends of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium raises funds for the Aquarium’s activities and programs.
