    Through the Science at the Seashore program, we are able to offer individuals and families many opportunities to learn about our marine environment through guided tours, art and storytelling and extended workshops.

Coastal Field Research (Grades 7-9)
Combine marine biology with art as we do laboratory and field research in our daily trips to Cabrilo Beach Coastal Park! Using the observational techniques and works of Muir, Rickets and Audubon (among others) as inspiration, students will keep a naturalist's journal and participate in field research to investigate the rocky intertidal, sandy beach and mudflats through pen, paper, a painters brush and the lens of a camera.

Class fee includes a Science at the Seashore T-shirt.

Crab Shells & Native Tales (Grades 3-4)
Observe animal behavior as you hold hermit crabs, go crab fishing, feed barnacles and more! Discover the marvelous mud at the salt marsh and how native peoples have used the ocean. Two sessions are offered, one in July and one in August. Registration includes a Science at the Seashore T-shirt.

EarthEcho Water Challenge & Salt Marsh Open House
Are you ready for the EarthEcho Water Challenge? Join us as we take part in this effort to teach the importance of our most precious resource–water. Learn what you, your family and friends can do to conserve water and prevent water pollution. Take actual samples and test them to learn more about the health of our salt marsh. Galloping Snails & Other Fishy Tales (Grades 1-2)
Watch snails gallop and other fascinating seashore animal behavior through shoreline exploration and laboratory activities. Ichthyology & Other Slimy Words
(Grades 5-6)

Examine the inner and outer workings of a fish, and discover unique features that relate sharks to eels and the garibaldi. Dissections, fishing, fish printing, and fish feeding are all included as part of the discovery! Two sessions are offered, one in July and one in August. Class fee includes a Science at the Seashore T-shirt.

Little Squirts: Ages 2-4
On four consecutive Wednesday afternoons you can join CMA Educators for a series of hands-on marine science adventures. Each class has a general ocean theme and will include elements of arts & crafts, movement, and music.

Little Squirts is offered for 2-4 year olds participating with parents(s). (Class size is limited to 10 students) Snacks are no longer provided by the Aquarium.

Salt Marsh Open House
Join CMA Educators to learn about the Salinas de San Pedro wetlands habitat at Cabrillo Beach by using binoculars and microscopes to observe live animals. Visitors can view the birds of the marsh, learn about native plants and observe the changes in the tides.

SEA Club - Science Education Afternoons Grades K-1
On four consecutive Wednesday afternoons join CMA Educators for a series of hands-on after-school marine science adventures. Participants help plan the schedule.

Tidepool Walk
CMA's Educators conduct tours of the Point Fermin tidepools. Attend an informative slide show in the John M. Olguin Auditorium, then come along on the naturalist-led ramble on the rocks to see animals in their natural habitat. Outdoor clothing and sneakers advised. Young children must be accompanied by adults.

Walk Cabrillo
Pack a snack and join a walk guided by CMA's Education staff. Starting at the Aquarium courtyard, you'll visit the native garden, salt marsh, beaches and tidepools. Explore each habitat and discover signs of the season along the shore. Examine fossils, native plants and beach wrack.
