Through the Science at the Seashore program, we are able to offer individuals and families many opportunities to learn about our marine environment through guided tours, art and storytelling and extended workshops.

Upcoming Science at the Seashore Events
Salt Marsh Open House
Join CMA Educators and volunteers to learn about the Salinas de San Pedro wetlands habitat at Cabrillo Beach by using binoculars and microscopes to observe live animals. Visitors can view the birds of the marsh, learn about native plants and observe the changes in the tides.
This is a free event open to everyone. Groups are asked to call ahead and register. Please call 310-548-7562.

SEA Club - Science Education Afternoons
Grades 3-6
On four consecutive Wednesday afternoons join CMA Educators for a series of hands-on after-school marine science adventures. Observe animal behavior; examine rocky shore animals during a hike along the tidepools; explore the wonders of mud at the salt marsh; get up-close with microscopes. Participants help plan the schedule. Includes SEA Club T-shirt. Financial assistance available.

Sunday Story Studio
Discover the wonders of the ocean through literature; join staff and volunteers in reading stories and poems, doing a puppet show, or singing a song. Participants will meet in the Exhibit Hall and learn about many different ocean habitats and creatures in this free event.

Walk Cabrillo
Pack a snack and join a beach walk guided by CMA's educators and volunteers. Starting at the aquarium courtyard, you'll visit the native garden, salt marsh, beaches and tidepools. Explore each habitat and discover signs of the season along the shore. Examine fossils, native plants and beach wrack.
Fee: Donations are welcome and appreciated.

Weekend Tidepool Walks
CMA's Education Staff conducts tours of the Point Fermin State Marine Park. Attend an informative slide show in the John M. Olguin Auditorium, then come along on the naturalist-led ramble on the rocks to see animals in their natural habitat. Outdoor clothing and sneakers advised. Young children must be accompanied by adults. Reservations required for groups.
This is a free event open to everyone.
