Through the Science at the Seashore program, we are able to offer individuals and families many opportunities to learn about our marine environment through guided tours, art and storytelling and extended workshops.

Ichthyology (Grades 5-6)
Find out about the inner and outer workings of fish, sharks and other ocean animals through behavior observations and dissection. Explore the ecosystems of Cabrillo Beach Coastal Park's fascinating inhabitants as we go fishing and use a beach seine. Develop an understanding of deep-sea animals, bioluminescence and oceanography. Little Squirts: Ages 2-4
Little Squirts is offered for four consecutive Saturdays from 10 to 10:45 am. Each month of sessions will have a general ocean theme and all sessions will include elements of arts & crafts, movement, and music.
We are taking reservations for monthly blocks and will limit class size to a maximum of 10 children, ages 2-4, participating with parent(s) or guardian(s).

Salt Marsh Open House
Join CMA Educators to learn about the Salinas de San Pedro wetlands habitat at Cabrillo Beach by using binoculars and microscopes to observe live animals. Visitors can view the birds of the marsh, learn about native plants and observe the changes in the tides.

SEA Club - Science Education Afternoons
Grades K-2
On four consecutive Wednesday afternoons join CMA Educators for a series of hands-on after-school marine science adventures. Students observe animal behavior; examine rocky shore animals at the tidepools; explore the wonders of mud at the salt marsh; and get an up-close view with microscopes. Participants help plan the schedule. Includes SEA Club T-shirt. Financial assistance available. Walk-ins cannot be accommodated.

Pack a snack and join a walk guided by CMA's Education staff. Starting at the Aquarium courtyard, you'll visit the native garden, salt marsh, beaches and tidepools. Explore each habitat and discover signs of the season along the shore. Examine fossils, native plants and beach wrack.
